Geography and history

The Oshikoto Province is located in the northern parts of Namibia. It has a total population of approximately 182 000 inhabitants and its capital is Omuthiya. This province has a mixture of economic activities such as agriculture, cattle farming and mining. The province is one without a shoreline or foreign border, but borders on five other provinces of the country – Ohangwena, Kavango, Otjozondjupa, Kunene and Oshana.

The capital town of Omuthiya is conveniently situated near the well-known Etosha National Park. This park is one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions. Tourists are encouraged to visit the province’s previous capital city, Tsumeb, because of its many activities and attractions. The Ongopolo Mine is one of the deepest mines in the area and is a definite must-see for visitors.
