Karas
Geography and history
The Karas Province is situated in the southern parts of Namibia. It has a total population of approximately 76 000 inhabitants and is the largest of the provinces in the country. The capital town of this province is Keetmanshoop and its name is derived from the magnificent Karas Mountain range in the area. This province borders on the Hardap Province of the country and the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.
The capital town of Keetmanshoop is situated near two quiver tree forests which is a very important tourist attraction for this area. The town of Oranjemund is located near the mouth of the Orange River and is known for its diamond mining activities. This town falls within the Sperrgebiet National Park which means that some wildlife roam the streets freely.
