Geography and history

Katima Mulilo is the capital city of the Caprivi Province of Namibia. It is located in the most North-Eastern parts of the country and has a total population of approximately 30 000 residents. The name of this city means “quenches the fire” which refers to the rapid waters of the great Zambezi River nearby.

Katima Mulilo is located on the B8 national road and is most of the times referred to as just “Katima”. The nearest town, Rundu, is situated 500 km away. The city of Katima Mulilo is the birthplace of two tribes, the Masubia and Mafwe who coexist in harmony in this area.
