Oshakati
Geography and history
Oshakati is the capital town of the Oshana Province of Namibia. It is located in the Northern parts of the country and has a total population of approximately 30 000 residents. This town is considered to be the largest town in the Northern parts of Namibia and served as the base for the South African Defence Force during the South African Border War and Namibian War of Independence.
Oshakati was founded in 1966 and the name of the town means “that which is in between”. The town is located on the B1 road has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters.
Oshakati is considered to be the largest town and capital of the Northern area known as Ovamboland.
