Outapi (Utapi)

Geography and history

Outapi, also known as Utapi and Ombalantu, is the capital town of the Omusati Province of Namibia. It is located in the Northern parts of the country and has a total population of approximately 3 000 inhabitants. The famous Omukwa Ombalantu baobab tree is also found here. This hollow tree trunk has been used as a post office and coffee shop in the past, but now serves as a craft shop.

Outapi is considered one of the smallest towns in the country, but is rapidly growing. The local inhabitants speak the Oshiwambo language.
